Science FictionHere is some good news for Farscape fans...

The "Farscape" franchise will live on as a live-action Web series. Sci Fi Channel executive Craig Engler confirmed that the company has closed a deal with The Jim Henson Company for a 10-episode webisode series. So far no stars or writers are signed to appear and no story plotted, but if successful, the project could lead to re-igniting the franchise on the air.

And for all the BSG fans out there...

This fall, Sci Fi Channel will launch "Battlestar Galactica" minisodes related to fall's "Battlestar" movie "Razor," debuting Nov. 24. Eight episodes running two or three minutes each will first air on Sci Fi Channel (air dates/times yet to be determined) and later at SciFi.com.

The minisodes tell the story of a young Commander Adama (Nico Cortez) who discovers a dangerous Cylon weapon during the Cylon War that will come back to haunt him and his crew 40 years later. The shorts were writte by Michael Taylor and directed by Wayne Rose and Felix Alcala.

The film "Battlestar Galactica: Razor" will show viewers Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) on his first mission as commander of the Battlestar Pegasus and will reveal how former Pegasus leader Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes) dealt with the original Cylon attack on the Colonies.

Bach likes Ricky's dope, and is willing to pay a premium for it if the Boys can deliver it to him in the States. Country music singer George Canyon stars as a forest ranger in hot pursuit of the Boys as they hatch a scheme to sell dope in the U.S.

Green Lantern Creator Nodell Dies at 91 Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Martin Nodell, the creator of the Green Lantern died at a nursing home in Muskego, Wis., on Saturday of natural causes. He was 91.

Nodell was looking for a new idea for a comic book in 1940 when he was waiting for a New York subway and saw a train operator waving a lantern displaying a green light, said Maggie Thompson, senior editor of Comics Buyer's Guide.

Nodell imagined a young engineer, Alan Scott, a train crash survivor who discovers in the debris an ancient lantern forged from a green meteor. Scott constructs a ring from the lamp that gives him super powers, and becomes a crime fighter.

He brought his drawings and story lines to All-American Publications, which later became a part of National Periodical Publications, the company that was to become DC Comics, Thompson said.

The first Green Lantern appearance came in July 1940, an eight-page story in a comic book also featuring other characters. The character then got his own series, and Nodell drew it until 1947 under the name Mart Dellon.

After its cancellation in 1949, the series was reborn in 1959 with a revised story line, and it has been revived several times.

Nodell was born in Philadelphia and studied at art schools in Chicago and New York. Besides Spencer Nodell, survivors include another son, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Downey Is Iron Man Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Robert Downey Jr. has been cast as Tony Stark in Jon Favreau's Iron Man movie.

The movie, based on the classic Marvel Comics character, is set for release by Paramount in May 2008. It will be the first to be self-financed by Marvel.

Downey will play Stark, a wealthy industrialist who invents a high-tech suit of body armor that gives him super powers when he is kidnapped.

In the comics, Stark was an alcoholic, a trait that will undoubtedly draw public comparisons with Downey's own struggles with substance abuse. But Marvel production president Kevin Feige told the trade papers that the first Iron Man movie won't deal with Stark's alcohol problems, though it would likely come up in potential sequels.

The first film will deal with Stark's invention of the Iron Man suit and his conflicted past as a weapons inventor.

Because the Comicbookguy is such a big fan of old "Helmet Head" the good people at PlanetDouglas.com decided to give their readers some insight into the history of Iron Man and the evolution of his armor.

    Tales of Suspense #39

Tony Stark takes the hit of shrapnel in his heart and invents the original gray Iron Man armor with Prof. Yinsen. The armor's chestplate acts as a pacemaker for Tony's damaged heart and must be kept powered up. Also, tragically, this playboy/inventor/industrialist must always keep his shirt on with the ladies. (Years later Dr. Donald "Thor" Blake gave Tony an artificial heart, so the chestplate was no longer required to keep him alive.)

    Tales of Suspense #40

After finding that his armor was a little too scary-looking for a hero, Tony paints the armor gold (or 100% yellow in comic printing terms), allowing him to take on the nickname "The Golden Avenger."

    Tales of Suspense #48

This armor has defined Iron Man's color scheme for most of the run as red and gold. The gold mask can actually slide onto the top of his head so Tony doesn't have to remove the whole helmet now if he wants to get a drink of water. Stark built this new armor because the old armor was too heavy and drew too much power, requiring it to be recharged more often. Though lightweight and flexible, the armor is said to be just as strong. A neat feature: the gold leg and arm covers are magnetically pulled up from the boot and glove cuffs. Also, the new mask enables Tony's "expression to show...which will psychologically aid in instilling fear in the hearts of (his) enemies."

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dies Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

World NewsSteve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition, police said. He was 44.

Irwin was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Queensland state when the accident occurred, Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its Web site.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. said Irwin was diving near Low Isles Reef near the resort town of Port Douglas, about 1,260 miles north of the state capital of Brisbane.

Queensland ambulance service spokesman Bob Hamil confirmed that a diver had been killed by a stingray off Lowe Isles Reef but refused to say who the victim was until relatives had been notified.

A rescue helicopter was sent from the nearby city of Cairns, and paramedics from it confirmed the diver’s death.

“The probable cause of death is stingray strike to the chest,” Hamil said.

Irwin is survived by his American wife Terri, from Oregon, and their daughter Bindi Sue, 8, and son Bob, who will turn 3 in December.

    Arrested Development Season 3.

Like Family Guy and only a few other TV shows cancelled before their time, Arrested Development has finally found a wide audience thanks to DVD. Despite rave reviews and awards while the show was on air, only a small fan base tuned in every week to watch. Sadly this is often the case these days for well written intelligent shows.

This was a show that never deserved to be cancelled. Self-deprecating, sly and full of wit, 'Arrested Development' was a revolutionary sitcom that didn't insult its audiences with crass innuendo or superficial humor. Instead, AD went out on a limb to bring us flawed yet lovable characters and ludicrously brilliant plotlines that, inexplicably but hilariously, came together in the end.

The success of Family Guy spawned the return of the show to Fox after a few years of it being cancelled. We can only hope that this amazing show can be awarded the same respect and be brought back to reclaim the spot as the number one comedy on television.

If you haven't had the pleasure of watching Arrested Development do yourself a favor and go back to Season 1 and watch the show from its humble beginnings.

If you’re a returning fan who missed much of Season 3 (Fox moved the show from timeslot to timeslot so much that it was nearly impossible to watch) and want to know how it all ends then this DVD is for you. You won't be disappointed.
